Description
Ceramist Jutta Golas' rich colors are on full display in this platform vase featuring sunset-like hues of orange, pink-y red, and blue. This vase is a sculptural work in its own right, with its 7 x 5 inch flat base (elevated on three ceramic feet) and 2 x 2 inch vertical square form perforated on one side with four circles of varied sizes. The top layer of glaze adds a shimmering luster (as can be seen in the detail image.)

About the Artist
Working out of her Littleton, Colorado studio, Jutta Golas is fascinated by nature's shapes, colors and textures. She creates ceramics defined by a complex palette that utilizes underglazes, glazes, and metallic lusters. Her airbrushing technique and multi-firing process yield rich and subtle colors. The harmony of opposites is a recurrent theme in her work: soft folds develop around hard edges; iridescent lusters shimmer in contrast to matte tones. She specializes in distinctive ceramic wall reliefs and ceramic sculpture—one of which is part of Kirkland Museum's permanent collection.
