Abstractions from Nature Journal

In warm autumn colors, this journal features a painting from Vance Kirkland’s "Abstractions from Nature" series from 1953. Kirkland painted “Abstractions from Nature” as part of his 3rd painting period of 5, "Hard Edge Abstractions," which he executed from 1947 to 1957. Although prior to this he was working most frequently in watercolors, he was beginning to focus more on painting in oils by 1953, when he painted this piece titled "Timberline Abstraction."
